On this day in 2008, SpaceX successfully launched Falcon 1, the first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to orbit the Earth. Powered by a single Merlin 1C engine, Falcon 1 formed the building blocks of the Falcon 9 rocket that’s targeted to launch next week to deliver Dragon to the space station.
