A few thoughts on today’s press briefing. (http://go.nasa.gov/TEUy0q).

1) Guys we have a two thousand pound mobile laboratory that works spectacularly well on the surface of Mars.

2) Sure we were all hoping for ground breaking news ASAP, but really this is great news. Instruments are detecting even the smallest traces of things, so as we go around looking at Martian history, we will learn TONS.

3) I love this team. If you watched the briefing you could see the excitement from the scientists. They’re excited, and trust me, they know this stuff better than anyone. More will come and these guys will tell us an amazing story about Mars and the world around us.

4) Science requires patience! Trust me there’s a lot of exciting work being done, but everyone wants to be completely certain before we draw any conclusions. And all we’ve done is sample some super generic, run-of-the-mill Martian sand. Wait till we start drilling into the rocks around us where they preserve more history!

So I’m still excited. We’re going to have a great time learning about Mars.

Love this.
