This is why I raise my eyebrows at “brutally honest” people, because that honesty only seems to occur under very particular circumstances. For the record, I’m not talking about brutal honesty as a synonym to simply being frank; I’m talking about people who use being “brutally honest” as a cover for saying things that would otherwise be — and still are, really — inappropriate or unacceptable.
