ASPCA Pet Health Insurance is kinda pushy. I just wanted a quote, not daily emails (and now phone calls) about it. It’s called shopping around. If and when I make a decision to use you, you’ll certainly be the first to hear of it.

More on a hunch than anything else, I got insurance for Oed after Rex got sick and went to the great catnip field in the sky. Care for him was SO expensive, we’d bankrupt ourselves if we did it for Oed. Turns out my hunch was right, because his kidneys are pretty much toast. Trupanion covers hereditary issues (if you have purebreeds, I would guess that would be really good). So long as there are no pre-existing conditions, they cover a lot. My policy has a $500 deductible per issue. So for Oed, it works out – we hit his $500 long ago, and now they pay 90% of just about everything that is related to that diagnosis.
I ended up getting insurance on the other kids because they are so young. Oed is $50/mo. The other three kids put together are $50/mo. I plan on getting them full health work ups to make sure they don’t have anything congenital going on, then may drop the insurance (or raise the deductible, I don’t know).
Our vet enjoys (if it can be said) working with Trupanion and the Trupanion rep that the vet (office) knows is very cool and informative.
I ended up going with Trupanion because of the hereditary issue. Rex died from kidney failure, and Oed has kidney problems. They were litter mates, so it’s likely that it’s a congenital issue, and I didn’t want that to bite me in the bum.

Nora is screwed outright with anyone, as she has pre-existing conditions… and I can’t really afford (for her sake, not monetarily) to postpone dealing with the suspected cushings disease by trying to play it off like I didn’t know anything was wrong with her and we just ‘discovered’ it during a routine exam.

]]>Try VPI. They might deal with pre-existing, but I just don’t know.
I’ll see if I can dig up some of the websites from the research I did.
