Just found out my childhood best friend passed away. I gather they found him this morning. No word yet on a cause. To my knowledge he was in good health.
We grew apart after I moved out of state but he was such a big part of my growing up.
He was the kid with the funny name, Reza. He was of Iranian descent. Probably my first real exposure to another culture. I’d have sleep-overs at this house and his mom (non-Iranian) would naturally make various foods from his Father’s culture. I remember being surprised how good the odd food was.
We both discovered the power of computers together. We shared the same class (even the same classroom, it turned out) for our last two years in elementary school. We were the two brainiacs of the class. First kid I ever met that was on my level in a classroom.
As life does we grew apart later in our lives. I moved out of state in junior high. A couple years before this internet was a real thing and certainly before an age of Facebook to keep in each others’ day-to-day lives.
But still, he’s inextricable from my childhood and I’ll carry his memory with me forever.
RIP buddy. We’ll miss you.
