The little rover that could.

The little rover that could.

These things were built for a three-month mission. Opportunity has been doing science for a decade now and all systems are go to continue its exploration of Mars’ water history.

It’s a shame that Opportunity’s sister rover, Spirit, broke its wheels and couldn’t reorient itself to maximize the sunlight hitting its solar panels; as it might otherwise be in operation today as well.

One day, future Martians (colonists from Earth), shall rediscover the MER rovers and perhaps even restore them for posterity.

Keep on keeping on, Opportunity!
